Opening Ceremonies for New Oak Grove Bridge

Summary 1(Informational): The U.S. Department of Transportation and Oak Grove County have replaced the bridge over Roaring Creek after a flood destroyed the bridge last year. The residents of Oak Grove attended the opening ceremonies this morning.

Summary 2 (Provocative): The residents of Oak Grove County no longer have to drive far to get to work. The bridge over Roaring Creek was recently replaced, with the help of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the county, after a flood destroyed it last year. The opening ceremonies were held this morning.

Oak Grove residents attended the opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. this morning for the new bridge over Roaring Creek that was destroyed by a flood last year.

Those who attended the opening ceremonies included: Midville Mayor Seth Montana, U.S. Congressman Nancy Draughorn and Sen. Warren Johns.

Oak Grove residents are happy with the new bridge.

Residents faced hardships when the bridge was destroyed because they had to drive much farther to get to work every day.

“Traveling all that way had made it very inconvenient for a lot of people,” Josh Spiva, an Oak Ridge resident and lawyer, said.

The bridge, a 33-foot span over Roaring Creek, was in bad shape before the flood; the county had set aside some money to repair the bridge before the flood had occurred.

The bridge cost $700,000 to replace, and with some help from the state, which donated $200,000, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, which donated $400,000, the county was able to replace it within a year.

"Having this bridge erected is quite a blessing," Spiva said.
