Happy Residents attend Roaring Creek Bridge Re-opening Ceremony

Summary: (Informational)
The bridge over Roaring Creek had its official re-opening ceremony after it was destroyed last year. Before, residents of Oak Grove were forced to make long detours which caused an inconvenience to many commuters.

Summary: (Provocative)
Residents will no longer be wasting time and gas to get to work now that the bridge over Roaring Creek has been repaired. The already damaged bridge was destroyed last year by a flood, impeding many residents of Oak Grove.

The 33-foot span bridge over Roaring Creek had its official re-opening ceremony this morning after it was destroyed by a flood last year.

The bridge was in need of repair long before its collapse.

“The problem was, we didn’t have enough [funding] to replace the bridge,” said the department head of the
County Department of Transportation Ronald Lively, “Fortunately, some state and federal money was available, and we were able to do it a lot quicker then we had expected.”

The $700,000 of funding to replace the bridge came from three sources.

- County - $100,000
- State - $200,000
- County Department of Transportation - $400,000

Without the bridge, some residents of Oak Grove, a neighborhood just north of Roaring Creek, were forced to drive the 9 mile detour in order to commute to work in Midville.

Even though the ceremony was today, the bridge has been open for a couple of weeks.

“We’ve had to use a lot of time and gasoline just to make what otherwise would be very short trips,” said Oak Grove resident Josh Spiva, “Having this bridge erected so quickly is a blessing.”

Those who attended the re-opening included
Midville Mayor, Seth Montana, Congressman Nancy Draughorn and Senator Warren Johns.
