Crosswalk Conflict

Two students walking off the Hill were stopped by a UTPED police officer for jaywalking last Friday.

Across campus there is one area that has become a running battle between University of Tennessee students and police: the crosswalk.

Since UTPD started posting officers on commonly used crosswalks last year, many students have run afoul of the officers' enforcenment policies. Last Friday was no exception.

The two students were cross the street below the University Center. They were waved on to proceed while the UTPD officer halted traffic.

After crossing the street, the students cut the corner of the crosswalk short.

The UTPD officer saw this and left his post, shouting at the students to stop.

After stopping the students, the officer delivered a review on the rules of the crosswalk and issued a warning that if he caught the students again he would cite them for jaywalking.

Once the officer was done talking the students continued on to a car.
