Collision avoided on campus

Two cars avoided a collision Monday afternoon on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville.

A male driving a black Toyota Corolla pulled out of faculty parking lot area 30, almost colliding with a 2001 black Mercury Cougar.

The driver of the Corolla did not look both ways before pulling onto Philip Fulmer Way from the faculty parking lot located behind the communication and Information Building.

Although the driver stopped before pulling onto the road, he proceeded to pull out without checking oncoming traffic.

Once the driver had entered the westbound lane, he slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting the Mercury Cougar. The driver of the Cougar was traveling east on Philip Fulmer Way.

The driver of the Corolla was speeding excessively through the parking lot which has a 5 mph speed limit. A stop sign has not been put up at the intersection.

Neither driver seemed bothered or upset by the incident.
