Rebuilt bridge opens in Oak Grove

Summary (Provocative): Chances are the County Department of Transportation in Oak Grove will not think twice about saving money for unexpected occurrences. If the county had saved more before the Roaring Creek bridge collapsed last year, additional funds would not have been needed to rebuild it.

Summary (Informational): A bridge in Oak Grove reopened to the public after financial aid was given from additional sources. The opening ceremony celebrated that residents no longer have to reroute their destination plans when traveling.

A rebuilt bridge in Oak Grove officially opened at 11 a.m. Friday, celebrating two weeks of access since it was destroyed by a flood last year.

The opening ceremony was attended by Midville Mayor Seth Montana, Congressman Nancy Draughorn and Sen. Warren Johns.

The 33-foot bridge has now been opened to the public, making the residents happy about transportation for the first time since the bridge collapsed by a flood last year, residents said.

Residents of Oak Grove had to alter their transportation routes and traveled much further to get to the same places they normally traveled.

“Traveling all that way has made it very inconvenient for a lot of people,” Oak Grove resident Josh Spiva said. “We’ve had to use a lot of time and gasoline just to make what otherwise would be very short trips.”

Residents of Oak Grove were saving money to repair the already damaged bridge over Roaring Creek before the flood destroyed it.

“The bridge was not in great shape when it was destroyed,” Roland Lively from the County Department of Transportation said. “We already had some money in the county budget for repairs.”

The County Department of Transportation didn’t have enough money to cover the cost of rebuilding the entire bridge, but help came in from all directions:
