Bridge Re-opening

Grand re-opening of a 75 year old bridge over Roaring Creek Road occurred this morning in Midville at 11 a.m.

Last year the 33-foot bridge was washed out by a flood.

The Oak Grove neighborhood community was forced to drive over nine extra miles to the main route without the bridge.

“Traveling all that way has made it very inconvenient for a lot of people. We’ve had to use a lot of time and gasoline just to make what otherwise would be very short trips,”Josh Spiva, Midville attorney, said. http://www.joshspiva.com

Roland Lively, head of the U.S. Department of Transporation, said that the bridge was not in good shape before it was destroyed.

"We were just going to repair it. Fortunately, some state and federal money was available, and we were able to do it a lot quicker than we expected,” Lively said. http://www.usdepartmentoftransportation.com

The bridge cost a total of $700,000 to replace.

$100,000 paid from the county
$200,000 paid from the state
$400,000 paid from the U.S. Department of Transportation

Midville Mayor Seth Montana, U.s. Congressman Nancy Draughorn, and United States Senator Warren Johns attended the opening ceremonies.
